Glasgow, well what can we say? You’re a City pretty close to our hearts here at Central Events. It’s Scotland’s largest City and the United Kingdom’s 4th most populous. Situated in the West of Scotland, as a port city on the River Clyde, Glasgow is rich in history as the 18th – 20th century saw extensive trade and shipbuilding. Today, it is a national cultural hub with Victorian and Contemporary architecture, a wealth of internationally renowned museums and heritage sites, a vibrant arts-scene with the Scottish Opera House, Scottish Ballet, and an abundance of live music venues, shops, and nightlife. Then of course, we can’t forget the major events to which we had the pleasure of hosting; Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2016 MOBO Awards, TRNSMT, Glasgow Summer Sessions and the upcoming Glasgow 2018 European Championships. Or perhaps you might know Glasgow best for something else? The People – they Make Glasgow! We have the pleasure of working with the people of Glasgow, as well as those from far and wide.
On the outskirts of Glasgow City lies Duntreath Castle, an ancestral home which sits in Strathblane, within a valley of rolling hills leading to Ben Lomond. In this picturesque location, it seemed fitting that Hollie Gordon’s fairytale Winter wedding dreams would come true within the grounds of this breath-taking estate in December 2017. With the help of Hollie’s mother Elle, I can certainly say that this certainly is the kind of wedding that any little girl dreams of – Cinderella’s got nothing on this!
Through the enchanting bell tower lit by candles and lined with whisky barrels, guests made their way to our 12m x 27m clear span marquee through our double glass door into the epitome of what is a perfect marquee wedding venue. Taking the bright and glamorous approach, the marquee was equipped with champagne carpet, ivory lined walls and roofs with a full roof of warm white fairy lights, then hung handmade floral chandeliers with a glass light fixing – just like you see on Pinterest.
To the right a large stage – made up of 6ft x 4ft stage sections – sat next to our 24ft x 16ft White LED Dance Floor. Surrounding this was the Gordons’ personal touches with a glass table plan inscribed with gold writing, a white and gold whisky barrel acting as the cake stand for the towering wedding cake, and poseur tables draped in white and gold linen and topped with floral wreaths and candelabras.
To the left of the dancefloor, an adjoining 9m x 6m clear span marquee, enclosed the loo unit to save the guests from bracing the Winter frost outside. This was ivory lined, floored with our hessian matting, carpeted and lit by our white uplighters.
They even added their own Winter touch with some mistletoe – how festive!
Our ivory lining acted as a reveal screen segmenting the entertainment section of the marquee from the reception section, before it was pulled back to reveal the true essence of beauty. To dress this segmenting screen, custom made baffle screens were created using beads. On our 6ft trestle tables and 6ft round tables lay a bed of hydrangeas and roses down the centre, surrounding gold and crystal candelabras creating a sea of candlelight. Adding height to their centrepieces, stood gold stands wrapped in fairy lights and topped with floral arrangements. Sat at your meal you could look across the candlelit marquee out to a full length of our panoramic window walls, which looked upon the frosty gardens of Duntreath Castle.
Catering was served from our 12m x 3m marquee situated at the opposite end of the marquee from the dancefloor section. Floral walls created a feature out of this additional marquee; lining the separating walls. To keep in theme with the December Winter wedding, a Christmas tree stood next to the floral wall over an abundance of gold wrapped presents, which was a perfect setting for speeches to take place.
This is a true representation of how marquees can be turned into extravagant wedding venues, with space for your own personal touches. Marquee weddings allow you to have the freedom to go wild and really make the most of your theme – whether it be floral and green, glitz and glam or rustic and ready; your marquee is your playground!
